This week marked round ten of the Douglas netball 2019 season and was the last round before the mid-year three-week break.

In the juniors, the Lightning Strikers took on Port in a high-intensity match.

Port had a slow start but came back in the final two quarters, however it was too late to catch the Lightning, who took the game 15 – 5.

Best and fairest was Gemma Brooks while players choices’ were Mahana Davis and Isabella Macfarlane.

In the Dynamite and Young Sapphires game, a strong start from the Sapphires saw them leading at half time.

The Dynamite attempted to fight back, winning the third quarter, however a scoreless final term from the dynamite allowed the Sapphires to take the win 28 – 8.

Best and fairest was awarded to Hazel Kitto who also received players choices along with Addison Ramsey.

In the Panthers versus Strikers match the Panthers proved too strong for the Strikers on the night.

Best and fairest was Tahlia Barnes with Tahlia also receiving players choice along with Layla Hinz.

In the senior’s competition in division one, the Cougars went up against Crocs 1.

Despite a strong start by the Cougars, an even second quarter put the Crocs back in the game.

The Cougars however, were able to keep just ahead for the rest of the match to win 49 – 32.

Best and fairest was awarded to Kayla Muirhead while players choices’ were Jasmine Kirk and Naomi Glenn.

Then the Young Guns and Jets 1 battled it out in a fast passed, hard-fought match.

At the end of the third quarter the Jets were 13 points up leaving the top of the ladder Young Guns with a hard fight in front of them. 

However the Guns mounted a comeback and an impressive final quarter saw them steal the win in the final minutes, 41 – 38.

Best and fairest was Jorja Harvey while players choices’ went to Georgia McCarthy and Kyah Francis.

In senior’s second division the Young Diamonds defeated the Drifters 46 – 23.

Best and fairest went to Ruby Woods and players choices’ were Mia Madgwick and Renae Shapter.

Lastly, in a highly contested match the Crocs 2 defeated Jets 2 38 – 34.

Best and fairest was Brooklyn Hunt who also received players choice along with Sharni Thomas.
