An 11-year-old girl from Cooya Beach has been charged in relation to a number of post office boxes being broken into earlier this week.

The young girl has been charged along with an 11-year-old boy from Manunda.

The charges relate to an incident in which dozens of post office boxes were raided at the Stockland Shopping Centre in Cairns early on Tuesday morning.

It will be alleged the pair were part of a larger group of youths who targeted the Mulgrave Road facility where items of mail destroyed or stolen during the incident.

Cairns Property Crime Squad officers located the pair at addresses in Manunda late yesterday afternoon.

They were charged with a total of 10 offences including entering premises and committing an indictable offence, wilful damage, theft of mail and tampering with mail.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
