Two charged following police drug raid in Port Douglas

Two Port Douglas men have been charged with numerous drug charges following a police raid on a property on Wednesday.
Local police executed a search warrant at a property in Blake Street Port Douglas on the back of information provided by the public.
Police allegedly located a large quantity of cannabis along with one cannabis plant, seven cannabis seedlings, utensils, and just under $5,000 in cash at the premises.
A 43-year-old man and 32-year-old man were charged in relation to the raid.
Police charged the men with a total of nine offences including supply dangerous drug, produce dangerous drugs, possess dangerous drugs, possess property suspected of being the proceeds of a drug offence, and possess utensils.
Port Douglas Police Sergeant, Damian Meadows, said these arrests are not believed to be connected to a larger crime operation and constitute small-scale criminal activity.
He also noted police greatly appreciate the public’s help in locating this type of criminal activity in the community.
“Police are always trying to generate intelligence and we are reliant on the public in relation to the provision of that information,” he said.
“All information in this case was generated by the community and provided to Police and, as a result, we were able to charge these persons with serious offences.
“We implore the pubic to continue that relationship with police in relation to any unlawful activity.”
Sergeant Meadows said there is several ways people can report suspicious or criminal activity in the community.
“They can contact their local Police station directly or via Crime Stoppers,” he said.
“When reporting through Crime Stoppers you can remain anonymous and we understand for some people that’s very important.
“Additionally, if the information provided to Crime Stoppers leads to a significant arrest, people are open to a level of reward for the provision of that information.”
