A Mareeba man has been arrested for trespassing and stealing scrap metal from the Killaloe tip.

The 33-yar-old was arrested in relation to the theft as well as evading police, unlicensed driving, and other offences.

Police alleged the man forced entry to the transfer station on separate occasions in June and July this year and stole scrap metal from the premises.

Police also allege on 4 March this year, Smithfield police attempted to intercept a vehicle which had been parked on Salvado Drive at around 3.00am.

The male driver sped off and refused to stop as directed.

Officers spoke with the man on Sheridan Street in the Cairns CBD just after 10.00am yesterday and he was taken into custody.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later this morning.
