It might have been plain sailing for Mossman-Port Douglas Sharks, who beat Mareeba 36-6 in Mossman on Saturday, but it was a different story for log leaders Yarrabah Seahawks who beat Edmonton Storm 32-24 in a closely contested affair.

It was the 11th successive win for the Sharks in this Cairns District Rugby League fixture who trail Yarrabah by two points on the A Grade ladder. The Mossman team does have a game in hand.

Yarrabah trailed 24-10 at the break, but 22 unanswered points in the latter half was the difference and the Seahawks managed to get home with a solid win.

Although Mossman dominated Mareeba – they led 22-0 at the break – and continued their winning streak, coach Brian Murgha is still cautiously optimistic about his team’s fortunes.

“We are taking it week by week and focusing on the next game. We are ensuring that we do everything right to allow us to maintain our momentum,” said Murgha.

On Saturday, the Sharks were out to make a statement and although Mareeba were ready for a challenging match, they were outgunned by the hosts who found the try line on more than half-a-dozen times.

The Sharks host the Kangaroos on Saturday at the Mossman Showgrounds at 6pm and the following week are at home to the Yarrabah Seahawks.
