An upgraded food court will be one of the highlights at this year’s 68th annual Mighty Mossman Show being held at the Mossman Showgrounds on Sunday and Monday, which is also a holiday in the shire.

And Douglas Shire Council, meanwhile, has provided $20,000 in sponsorship and $1,200 in-kind assistance for the Mossman and District Show Society to ensure the showgrounds are ready for the 2019 event.

This included completing a handful of works such as the shelter extension, a new pedestrian crossing at the showgrounds car park and cleaning footpaths leading to the showgrounds.

Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu said Council loved supporting the Mossman Show.

“The Mossman Show is a quintessential community event,” she said.

“It is a celebration of our community, agricultural industries and a great opportunity to come together for two days of fun.”

Council officers will be staffing a stall with puppies and water education games at the WS Johnston Pavilion over the two days.

The weekend will feature signature events such as wood chopping, dog jumping, fat cattle competition, equestrian and a fireworks display.

“The Mossman Show always draws a strong crowd so it is important we have a notable presence and interact with our residents,” Mayor Leu.

“I encourage everyone to come down for a chat and you never know, you may learn a thing or two about what your Council does.”

Council would also like to remind residents that the Mossman Administration Building will be closed for the show public holiday on Monday, July 22.

Opening hours at the Waste Transfer Facility will remain unchanged.
