BH Electrics is ensuring Douglas Shire residents are safe by offering free smoke alarm inspections to Newsport readers.

The rollout of new government smoke alarm legislation in 2017, 2022, and 2027 means all smoke alarms must meet new standards.

Electrician, Brad Sims, along with wife Leanne, have been running BH Electrics since 2017, and are endeavouring to help residents get their alarms up to date.

“Far too often we go into properties and we see that the smoke alarms have been disabled, are hanging off the roof, or the batteries are pulled out,” Mr Sims said.

“Smoke alarms are there to save lives, so it is important to make sure everything is working correctly.”

The new legislation means all smoke alarms will eventually need to be photoelectric, be less than 10 years old, be interconnected, and be installed in each bedroom and hallway.

“We can do inspections to make sure the fire alarms are compliant and test them, making sure they’re in date and functioning correctly.

“We’ve got compliant smoke alarms in stock; it’s an easy swap out and we can have them installed quickly.”

Mr Sims, who is backed by more than 20 years experience in the electrical field, said their aim is to educate the community on what their requirements are, making sure they’re not only compliant but also safe.

“Were offering free inspections, through to the end of August,” he said.

“Our professional team are up with all the rules and regulations so they can inform clients on the best course of action.”

The team at BH Electrics are committed to community safety and Mr Sims said it’s not just smoke alarms; it’s all things electrical.

“It’s about not taking short cuts and making sure everything is correct.”

BH Electrics offer a 24 Hr/7 day a week service support to commercial clients and respond quickly to any emergency work request, providing a full range of electrical services, and offer a same day service guarantee.
