EMERGENCY BRIEF

Last updated:

Two people were rescued from Mossman Gorge after they were swept downstream of a popular swimming spot this afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the gorge at about 3.00pm to reports the pair were stuck on rocks in the middle of the river, surrounded by swift-flowing water.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said crews were using ropes attached to life vests to throw out to people during the rescue.

It took about an hour before both people were successfully rescued and brought to the safety of the riverbank.

Queensland Ambulance are transporting one male and one female, both in their 20s, to Mossman Hospital in stable condition.
