A warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting damaging winds to whip parts of the tropical coast over the next few hours. 

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours.

Locations which may be affected include Port Douglas, Mareeba, Mossman and Daintree Village.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:

• Move your car under cover or away from trees.
• Secure loose outdoor items.
• Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
• Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
• Beware of fallen trees and power lines.
• For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. 

The warning coincides with the BOM predicting king tides in Douglas Shire from Sunday, 17 February to Thursday 21 February with salt water is expected to rise onto low-lying roads in the region.

Some roads in particular that may be impacted are:

• Mowbray St
• Corner of Mudlo/Mowbray St
• Corner of Grant/Mowbray St
• Warner St

• 7.43am – Sunday – 3.11m
• 8.24am – Monday – 3.29m
• 9.05am – Tuesday – 3.38m
• 9.46am – Wednesday – 3.35m
• 10.26am – Thursday – 3.2m
