A two-lane boat ramp and additional marine infrastructure at Newell Beach is a step closer with the Department of Transport and Main Roads completing the first stage of modelling for the project.

The new boat ramp, floating walkway, and rock groyne form part of the State Government’s Marine Infrastructure Fund commitment from the 2017 election.

A Transport and Main Roads (TMR) spokesperson said the project is on track for completion next year. 

“Environmental investigation field work and data collection for wave, tide and flood modelling was completed in December 2018,” the spokesperson said.

The next round of planning and testing will determine the best orientation and direction of the new ramp and accompanying infrastructure.

“Modelling studies and environmental reports are scheduled to be complete by mid 2019,” the TMR spokesperson said. 

“These investigations will assess the most appropriate configuration for the new facility.”

TMR gave assurances during the planning and development process Council, local boating clubs, and other stakeholders will be consulted on the design of the new ramp.
