Mayor excited to welcome Syrian Billionaire

The final touches to the proposed re-development of the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina will be the key focus of Syrian billionaire Ghassan Aboud’s pending visit to Port Douglas in two weeks.
It has been reported that he will have a final look at the town and marina before the proposed $200 million re-development is approved by his company.
And Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu today said she was looking forward to welcoming Mr Ghassan Aboud. “Council is very excited and looking forward to meeting Ghassan Aboud for the first time ever later this month,” said Leu.
“We have already been treated to a sneak peek of the concept designs and everyone is really impressed with what Crystalbrook Collection has put together.
“The reef and rainforest is the essence of Douglas Shire and what they have brought to the table so far absolutely fits that narrative.
“We are continuing to work closely with Crystalbrook Collection and feel really confident that this development is edging closer,” she said.
Council did confirm that they had yet to receive the revised Development Application, which is expected to be submitted within the next two to three months.
It has been mentioned that should Crystalbrook receive the necessary Council approvals, work could be begin in September.
In September 2017, Crystalbrook Collection purchased The Reef Marina, adding to Aboud’s stable of investments in Far North Queensland.
At the time, it was reported his tourism and hospitality group would pour at least another $100 million into the precinct to build a 100-room luxury waterfront hotel, 50 premium apartments and enhanced retail and dining areas.
“With our plans, we believe we can redefine the Australian marina experience and ensure Port Douglas is an essential-visit location for high-end global travellers,” Aboud said.
