Police continue to search for missing man in Daintree area

MISSING PERSON

Victorian man Milan Lemic remains missing in the Daintree area more than 48 hours after he was last seen by a member of the public.

Queensland police Senior Sergeant Ed Lukin said overnight officers from the Department of Environment and Heritage were searching the area.

“We have engaged their services in the unlikely event a crocodile was involved in this incident,” he said.

SES volunteers and police have spent the day searching for the 29-year-old who was reported missing by his family in Victoria after they had not seen him for two days.

Drones were also used to search inaccessible areas including crocodile-infested locations, however, police believe it is highly unlikely that he was taken by a crocodile.

“Today we have had SES searching a two-kilometre radius around his last known location which is his vehicle.

“There is concern that a person would drive a two-wheel-drive conventional vehicle into the crossing of the Daintree with no known contacts up that way and having been reported (missing) in Victoria, there are concerns for his condition.

“He has an undiagnosed medical condition that may preclude him from seeking out contact with others.

“I will state though that there has been nothing put before me that would indicate that he is a danger, however, anyone that comes across him should call 000 immediately,” Sergeant Lukin said.

Mr Lemic’s vehicle is believed to have become bogged at Bairds Crossing, Upper Daintree Village at approximately 4.30pm on Sunday.

A member of the pubic came across the bogged vehicle and offered assistance, when the member of the public returned with a tractor sometime later to pull the vehicle out, Mr Lemic was unable to be located.

Mr Lemic is described as Caucasian, 191cm tall and black hair.

He was last seen wearing a bright fluro singlet, black gym shirt with white writing on it, black tracksuit pants, no shoes and no hat.

“We are still hopeful we will locate this missing man,” Sergeant Lukin said.
