Douglas Shire families are being encouraged to wear UV active fluoro colours as they dance under UV floodlights or the kids disco at Dixie Park, next to the iconic Sugar Wharf, from 5.30pm as part of New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Fluoro colours will bring a zing and a glow to the family-friendly event.

Douglas Shire Council is proudly presenting ‘Welcome 2020’, and is calling on locals and wider FNQ to celebrate in style with a night in Port Douglas this year.

Free UV face painting is provided by ‘Amazing Faces’ and with everyone’s favourite Kids DJ – ‘Ace DJ’ dishing out the tunes, this will be a fun event with prizes and give-a-ways.

Family-friendly fireworks will splash the sky at 8pm.

Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu said the family fun focus was tipped to attract a large crowd to Port Douglas.

“What a great way to celebrate the excitement of New Year’s Eve with the whole family and still be home at a reasonable time,” she said.

“We already know that New Year’s Eve is a big night of trading for our local restaurants and bars but the family element means there’s something for everyone.

“I expect the waterfront to be a glowing delight, but the vibrant atmosphere will stretch right down Macrossan Street with Council’s new decorative lighting luring people through,” said Mayor Leu.

The skies will be awash with colour as the Douglas Shire officially welcomes 2020 with the final fireworks at midnight. Refreshments will be available.
