Mossman pool to close after current operating staff depart

COMMUNITY NOTICE

The Mossman Swimming Pool will be closed from Sunday, 1 September once the current operators relinquish management of the pool after 14 years.

Douglas Shire Council is now looking out for new staff to take over the running of the pool once annual maintenance tasks have been completed.

The new staff will manage the pool on an interim basis while Council runs a tender process to find a permanent replacement for the current operators.

In a statement released today, Douglas Shire Council said the pool could be closed for up to eight weeks.

However, the statement assured Council is working hard to re-open the site sooner.

Council also aims to facilitate any pre-booked events or activities that may fall in the closure period, the statement reads.

Any new pool management staff will need to comply with the Royal Life Saving Society of Australia Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations.

Council is aiming to improve safety standards and consistency of service at the pool and caravan park for the 2019/2020 summer period.

The adjoining caravan park will remain open while the pool is closed and Council will ensure the park is staffed.
