National Science Week is in full swing at the Mossman Library with kids from all over getting the chance to play with robots and experience the Great Barrier Reef in virtual reality.

The events at the library also include a backyard exploration at story time tomorrow at 10.30am and a display on loan from the Queensland Museum available all week.

Science week activities are also available for adults including the Reef and Rainforest Virtual Reality Experincfrom Great Barrier Reef Legacy and a discussion about local native medicinal plants from local Author Cheryll Williams.

Douglas Shire Council is also hosting a colouring-in competition to celebrate National Science Week with entries due on 19 August at 4.00pm.

The National Science Week theme is Destination Moon: more missions, more science and colouring-in sheets available from Mossman Library or Port Douglas Community Hall.

Prizes for the colouring competition include fun gadets and science equipment.

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology and thousands of individuals – from students, to scientists to chefs and musicians – get involved, taking part in more than 1000 science events across the nation.
