Douglas not-for-profits urged to apply for grant funding

Port Douglas and Mossman sporting clubs and non-profit organisations are being encouraged to apply for grants which will mutually benefit the overall community.
Connected Communities Far North Queensland – formerly BACC (Building Active Connected Communities) – has announced that its first round of grants under the new branding and guidelines are now open.
Grants opened earlier this month and close on 30 October at 5.00pm.
Michael Kerr, who serves as a director of CC-FNQ and is a local councillor, said there are significant benefits to the community.
“I am encouraging clubs and organisations to apply and already the Port Douglas Community Centre and The Clink Theatre, among others, have reaped the benefits of these grants,” said Mr Kerr.
To date, more than $1,000,000 has been handed back to the communities of Cairns, Mossman and Port Douglas. Over 220 clubs have been financially assisted to help their organisations be more sustainable within the communities that they operate.
“The overriding criteria for CC-FNQ grants is the funds must be utilised for the ‘overall benefit of the community’.
Sporting clubs and not-for-profit organisations within the Gordonvale, Cairns, Kuranda, Port Douglas and Mossman post code areas may apply, which includes the Northern regions of Douglas,” said Mr Kerr.
CC-FNQ was recently honoured when it received the Cairns Chamber of Commerce “Business Excellence Awards” for Community Contribution.
Mr Kerr said there are two grant categories:
- Grants up to the amount of $2,500 and grants up to the value of $5,000
- Only one grant per organisation will be considered per annum
- Only sporting club or not-for-profit organisation may apply
Grants can be made for, but not limited to:
- uniforms/apparel, equipment and accredited courses for coaches & officials
- Purchasing items or repairing recreation areas utilised by the body
- Contribution to the purchase of major capital items.
The grants program will not fund:
- Purchases of non-sporting apparel or apparel which is not part of the uniform
- Equipment not used specifically for the applicant groups activities
- Travel & accommodation
- Cost of courses not recognised by the groups National Body
- Payment to club members, officials or coaches for services provided.
“Priority will be given to applications which are considered the greatest benefit to enhancing the wellbeing of the selected areas and have the greatest benefit to the communities.
“Although CC-FNQ is sponsored by Bendigo Bank, CC-FNQ provides the funding through contributions that are given to CC-FNQ via Bendigo Bank customers choosing to be a part of the program,” said Mr Kerr.
