Community invited to apply for upcoming Council grant funding

It’s time for individuals and organisations to unleash their creative juices which can then play a significant role in enhancing the community or growing the local economy.
And this can be realised through a Douglas Shire Council grant.
Council will be inviting grant applications for local projects under the revised Council Grants Program, due to open on 2 September this year.
Information sessions will be held in Mossman, Port Douglas and Diwan next week for anyone interested.
Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu said the grants program always dished up a variety of projects.
“Every year, Council is thrilled to support fantastic projects through this grant funding scheme,” she said.
“If you cast your mind back to last year, we had projects such as the GBR Legacy virtual reality reef project, sporting clubs and the indigenous language program.
“I expect this year to be no different and I call on anyone with an idea to come along to the information sessions and see how you can apply.”
Council recently resolved to streamline the annual grants program to encourage more applications.
The Business, Community Support and Event Funding programs have been revised into a Major Grant Category, while Place-making and Micro Grants are new categories.
The funding pool of revised grant funding streams includes:
- Major Grant – $60,000 ($2,001 – $10,000)
- Place making – $5,000 (Up to $2,000)
- Micro grant – $10,000 (Up to $2,000)
