THERE has been a second shark attack in the Whitsunday Islands after a young girl was bitten on the leg today.

A child was retrieved by a rescue helicopter at Cid Harbour this afternoon and was in a serious condition following a bite to her upper leg, it has been reported.

It comes less than a day after a 46 year-old mother-of-two was attacked while snorkeling at the tourist hotspot.

She suffered a wound to her left thigh and was airlifted from Mackay Base Hospital to Brisbane last night  on a LifeFlight Air Ambulance jet.

The 46 year-old was transported by ambulance into the into the care of an aeromedical team.

She was then transported to hospital for further medical treatment.
