Petanque tournament a 'wonderful success'
PORT DOUGLAS
PORT Douglas will look at hosting two major Petanque tournaments next year following the success of a regional event at Market Park on Saturday.
Players from as far as Mission Beach and Innisfail took part in the local play-offs on the weekend.
Petanque, a french sport similar to Bocce, is played by a group of around 40 Port Douglas locals every Wednesday afternoon.
“The tournament was a wonderful success,” event organiser and Port Douglas Pétanque president, Ron Kelly, said today.
“We had a bus load come up from Mission Beach and about 15 up from Cairns.
“We had over 70 people play in the tournament, it was a really good set up and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
Port Douglas won the tournament on overall points. Kelly said the club would look at hosting more events in 2018.
“We want to try and do two next year,” he said.
“The guys from mission beach all commented on how well organised it was.”
