New Quicksilver Dive Centre bubbles away

NEW BUSINESS

As Port Douglas residents keenly await the future of Warner Street upgrade, the completion of Quicksilver’s Dive Centre has already added some sparkle to what is regarded as the town’s ‘most beautiful street’.

With the official opening on Tuesday, October 23, the Learn to Dive Facility, on the corner of Warner and Grant Streets, will unveil a dive pool with retractable roof - allowing students to operate in all weather conditions - classrooms and a dive retail outlet.

Quicksilver Group Managing Director Tony Baker said at the time of the construction, Learn to Dive facility should create more jobs for the town. The company already employs 245 staff in Port Douglas.

“We are confident in the growth of tourism to Port Douglas and this development will enable Quicksilver to continue our investment in our facilities and services moving forward,” he said.

“We are extremely excited, as it will allow us to grow the dive market in Port Douglas and introduce a dive specialty retail outlet.”

Port Douglas boasts some of the world’s best dive sites close to its shores and the new facility is expected to attract enthusiasts from across the globe.

A new four-day dive course will also be offered at the centre which could entice ‘a new market’ to the town.
