A 38-YEAR-OLD man has been charged following investigations into the suspicious death of a woman in Mapoon, north of Arukun, on Friday night.

Police were called to a Ndruili Street residence around 11pm where they located the 22-year-old woman deceased.

A Mapoon man was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm. The man and woman were known to each other.

He is due to appear in the Weipa Magistrates Court.

Investigations are continuing.
