Local police warn against leaving keys and other valuables in accessible locations in the home

Port Douglas residents are again being advised to be more vigilant when it comes to protecting their property following a break-in on Nautilus Street on Friday night and a car theft on St Crispins by four juvenile females – two 14-year-olds and two 15-year-olds – who were later apprehended in Cairns.

Port Douglas Police Senior Sergeant Damian Meadows confirmed that the teens were from Cairns and highlighted their zero regard for people’s property in this town.

“This is something we have to deal with and it’s important residents ensure their properties are secure making it harder for these break-ins to occur,” he said.

“It’s important that car keys, mobile phones and other valuables are not left lying around. Windows and doors need to be secured with security screens and locked at night.

“We don’t have the transport system available in larger cities and your life is literally turned upside down if you awake the next morning to find your car has been stolen. We must be more vigilant and take every precaution,” said Meadows.

Meadows stressed that the juveniles were definitely not locals also expressing concern at the alarming rise of female perpetrators.
