Police target tailgating on Queensland roads
POLICE CAMPAIGN
Queensland Police are urging drivers to check their travel distance during November as part of their anti-tailgating campaign.
The “Be a Mate” campaign highlights the need for drivers to be aware of their surroundings and to allow a safe distance between themselves and other cars on the road.
Research by the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety Queensland (CARRS-Q) showed as many as two thirds of drivers are not keeping to the recommended safe following distance (2 seconds).
According to Queensland Police, rear-end crashes make up a full quarter of the insurance claims paid through the state’s CTP insurance scheme.
Queensland Police and the Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) are asking all drivers to take on the responsibility of being safe on the road.
BE A MATE: DON'T TAILGATE
The campaign includes a number of videos on the MAIC YouTube Channel that demonstrate the risks drivers take by placing them in different contexts.
For information on how to report crashes, including non-injury ones, visit the Queensland Police road safety website.
