DOUGLAS Shire Council, organisers of Carnivale 2018, will be seeking “honest feedback” in coming weeks from the community which will form part of a detailed review.

And Mayor Julia Leu said today in a statement to Newsport that this information will help guide and shape the event for next year’s 25th Anniversary celebrations.

Leu said although crowd numbers have yet to be finalized, anecdotally the figures appear to be slightly higher than previous years.

“This was evident from the number of people attending the Spiegel tent, which sold out most nights, and the Ross Wilson rock concert which drew a fantastic crowd on Saturday night,” she said.

“The Carnivale weekend was a huge success and exceeded Council’s expectations. The wide range of events attracted thousands of people to Port Douglas.”

Leu said she spoke to many people who visited from Cairns and loved having another fantastic reason to come to the Douglas Shire.

The energetic Tropical Magic Street Parade on Macrossan St drew thousands of people and injected a lively buzz to kick off the weekend.

“The community really get behind this event every year and the effort the participants put into the costuming, music and decorations was outstanding.

“I extend my congratulations to everyone, especially our dedicated volunteers, for making what was a wonderful night,” said Leu.

Leu said the other highlights included Aussie rocker Ross Wilson who was immensely popular; and Four Mile Beach proved the place to be at the Family Beach Day on Saturday.

Families were treated to an exciting sky diving display and got right behind free activities such as sand sculpting and Samba in the sand.
