Cooke said although the station will be in competition with Shell, which is across the road, he said there will not be a price war. “What we will do is match them,” he said.

It will operate with a small café with barista coffee, fresh sandwiches, breakfast wraps, pies, burgers and other hot options available.

“We will also be promoting an Australia-wide BP Plus fuel card which will be accepted at BP Port Douglas.

“And in our marketing campaign, we will be offering local accounts for small, medium and large businesses, as well as community and non-profit groups,” said Cooke. 

“We will feature a separate truck refueling area and both of BP’s fuels will be available: Ultimate Unleaded 98 for motor vehicles and Ultimate Diesel.

“In addition to Regular Unleaded and Regular Diesel, AdBlue diesel exhaust fluid will also be available for use in trucks and diesel vehicles with modern exhaust systems,” said Cooke.

He added that incoming store manager Selina Curry is in the throes of recruiting locals to work at the site.

BP Port Douglas has four owners who also own the BP station at Cairns Central, along with other service stations across the country.
