A 57-YEAR-OLD Mossman man is lucky to be alive after a crash on the Captain Cook north of Port Douglas this afternoon.

The man had been driving from Cairns to Mossman when he lost control of his Toyota Dual Cab Hilux near the McClelland Road intersection.

He miraculously walked away from the incident with minor bruising.

Mossman Police Officer in Charge Matt Smith said the driver was ‘extremely fortunate’ to have escaped with his life.

“The way the car ended up you would have suspected this to be a fatality,” Sgt Smith told Newsport today.

“The car looked in a really bad way but he has walked away with only minor injuries.”

The man passed a roadside breath test at the scene returning a zero reading. He was the only occupant of the vehicle.

“He is a very respected member of the community and there is nothing sinister involved,” Sgt Smith said.

“It could have been driver fatigue or concentration. He is very lucky.”
