YOU'D be hard-pressed to find someone more easy-going than Keith Hamelin, owner of the recently-opened Port O’Call takeaway which is located on 1-7 Craven Close.

Situated within the Coral Beach Lodge, and as Keith says, “we wanted a takeaway in this part of the town,” it is a perfect location to stop by and choose from a menu which will be well received.

Besides their signature Port O’Call Burger, the menu includes a Southern Fried Chicken Burger, Barra Burger, Brekkie Burger, among others. Potato scallops, chicken satays, chips and coffee are also available.

What really draws you to the location is Keith’s welcome smile, an approach he has mastered after many years in the hospitality industry.

And to complement the team at Port O’Call is 17-year veteran chef Stuart Usherwood, who underwent his training in traditional Italian dishes. But he is already making his mark with the many burgers on offer.

Formerly from Western Australia, Stuart is enjoying his new life and of course, Port Douglas’ climate.
For Keith, who has owned and managed a 246-unit complex, a body corporate, a motel, supermarket and roadhouse, Port O’Call is all about offering reasonable prices for quality food.

“It makes sense to have a takeaway in this part of town and I am targeting the local market, of course, and visitors,” he says.

“We were well received when we opened and I am already seeing return customers. We want to build a solid clientele and as with any business like this one, word of mouth is the strongest communication tool and we hope to capitalise on that.”

Port O’Call is open from 5.00-8.00pm daily, but is currently closed on Tuesdays.
