Residents told snakes are on the move

RESIDENTS are being told to watch out for more snakes and crocodiles following the recent deluge across the Douglas Shire.
A motorist snapped an image of a huge python crossing Macrossan Street in Port Douglas early this morning while crocs are known to turn up in unexpected places following heavy rain.
Further south, residents are also being warned about an influx of bull sharks.
“Fast water flows and contaminants are not the only potential dangers presented by flood water – there are also some species we have to watch out for,” Environment Minister Leeanne Enoch said.
“Wildlife officers from the DES are ready to respond and remove any crocodile that poses a risk to local communities.
“People should also be on the look out for snakes – they are good swimmers and may turn up unexpectedly following a flood.”
Locals are reminded not to attempt to catch or remove a snake and to contact a local licensed snake removalist for assistance.
It comes as blue skies and sunshine is forecast for the Port Douglas region for the remainder of the working week.
