AMERICA’S confidence in the Port Douglas region’s tourism market is soaring off the back of the wildly successful launch of the ‘Dundee’ Tourism Australia advertising campaign.

Sailaway Port Douglas owner Steve Edmondson recently returned from a destination marketing trip to the US where he witnessed first hand the affect of the clever commercials starring Australian heartthrob Chris Hemsworth with many other Aussie superstars.

Steve had over 100 ‘one-on-one’ appointments as part of the TA Marketplace trip, which focused on how to convert the strong aspirational appeal of visiting ‘Down Under’ into American bookings with destination specialist agents.

"Our North American friends do like the Great Barrier Reef and Port Douglas and Daintree tropical region a lot," he said.

“The new Dundee campaign invited viewers to take another look and connect with those friendly laid back Aussies who don’t mind taking the ‘Mick’ out of themselves.

“There is a western cultural connection that works so well between the USA and Down Under. We gave them a quick teaser to discover the many attractions in our amazing region.”

Steve and his wife Katrina have been running Sailaway for almost 15 years and are showing no signs of slowing down.

In fact, their exciting Eco Adventure tour on the wild side to Mackay Cay from Cape Tribulation to Mackay Coral Cay will recommence in April after a successful first season of operation in 2017. No wading policy pick up guests from iconic beach, Kulki National Park and Cape Trib Beach House by custom landing craft before sailing to snorkel the aquamarine clear water and white sands of the Cay.

“We’re extremely pleased with the success and amazing feedback of Sailaway Cape Trib, mainly because we could offer a totally different experience with a Full Day genuine connection to the environment,” Steve said.

“It’s remote and unspoilt and our guests felt the uniqueness of what the trip was all about. The challenges of operating in such an environment were well worth it.”

Guests enjoy a marine biologist guided snorkelling tour of the pristine waters of sheltered Mackay Coral Cay after a 75-minute pure sailing experience.

“The journey really is as enjoyable as the destination,” Steve added.

Sailaway’s Cape Tribulation tours begin on April 5 and will run until November 20, now seven days a week.
