DOUGLAS Shire Council CEO Linda Cardew has resigned from her role to take the top job at Cook Shire Council.?

Ms Cardew announced her decision to Council staff today.

The lawyer has been involved in local government for more than 20 years and said the opportunity to join the Cook Shire was ‘very hard to say no.’

She has helped navigate the Douglas Shire Council since its de-amalgamation with Cairns Regional Council in 2013.

“Council’s success is a testament to the strong partnership between the Mayor, Councillors and the professional teamwork of officers across council,” Ms Cardew said.

“The Douglas Shire community is a fantastic mix of people to work with.

“Council is an established, competent and proud organisation that continues to punch way above its weight.”

A nation-wide recruitment process will begin soon to find her replacement.

Mayor Julia Leu said Ms Cardew has helped transform Council into a progressive and capable organisation.?

“Linda has made a significant contribution to Douglas Shire and this is a great opportunity for her so I wish her well into the future,” she said.?

“We now have a fantastic opportunity for someone to lead a progressive and dynamic Council in one of the most pristine and diverse environments in the world.”
