MOSSMAN police will begin patrols at Wonga Beach after reports of threatening behaviour towards the elderly by ‘hooning’ quad and motorcycle riders.

Several reports have been levelled in recent weeks in relation to ‘terrorising behaviour’ from motor and ATV quad bike riders.

It’s believed a number of older residents have been subject to intimidation from speeding riders on unregistered vehicles at Wonga Beach and near access roads.

Locals are now being encouraged to take photographs of any unlawful acts in the area.

Mossman Officer in Charge Sergeant Matt Smith has promised a heightened police presence of the area.

“We will be ramping up patrols and commence legal proceedings against any person who feels it is okay to behave in an intimidating and threatening manner,” Sgt Smith said.

“We’re urging residents of Wonga Beach to increase their vigilance and report any sightings of inappropriate behaviour.”

The operation hopes to identify the offenders and their motorcycles.

If you have information contact Mossman Police on 131444.
