Council to vote on any complaints that involve CEO
COUNCIL AGENDA
THE Crime And Corruption Act 2001 General Policy will be presented as an agenda item at Tuesday’s open session of the Douglas Shire at their Mossman Council Chambers.
Councillors will be advised that under Section 48A of the Crime and Corruption Act 2001, Council must have a policy dealing with complaints that involves, or may involve, corrupt conduct by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
“To assist Council in developing this policy, the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) has provided a suggested policy template. The policy presented to Council for adoption is substantially in line with the suggested policy template and the only changes that have been undertaken were to reflect this Council.
“Following adoption by Council, this policy will be forwarded to the CCC for their review. Delegated authority to the CEO is sought from Council to enable any administrative changes that may be required following the review by the CCC to be updated to this policy,” according to Council’s agenda report.
The objective of this policy is to set out how Council will deal with a complaint (also information or matter) that involves or may involve corrupt conduct of its CEO as defined in the Crime and Corruption Act 2001 (CC Act).
It will also be proposed at the meeting that the Drinking Water Quality Management Plan (DWQMP) be endorsed.
It is a public health-based risk management plan that meets the requirements of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines 2011 and the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008.
From a risk management perspective, Council is a registered water service provider, and has a statutory obligation to ensure it is able to provide water services to customers.
Council’s reputation would suffer if unable to maintain service levels at prescribed standards.
The DWQMP provides information on strategies and procedures on how to ensure safe drinking water for the community at all times; minimise occupational health and safety risks and risks to Council infrastructure.
