EIGHT Port Douglas players have been named in the North Queensland team to face South Queensland in Brisbane on Saturday.

Representative coach Brad Cooper and his support staff have included Crocs captain Kye Chapple, Josh Wilson, Adam Gross, Jordan Chapman, Wesley Glass, Brett McKeown, Brett Meredith and Skip Gribbon as part of the final 23-man squad.

AFL Cairns ladder leader Cairns Saints are also well represented, with Cade Wellington, Jack Philp, Cameron Johns, Tim Lamprill, and Joel Newman named to take on on their southern rivals at Aspley Hornets. Port will meet the Saints in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday week.

This will be the fifth AFL Queensland representative match, with South Queensland victorious on the past two occasions in Cairns. Interestingly, the travelling team has always won, with North Queensland getting up the first two years.

Cooper, in his second stint as coach, will have a stack of talent at his disposal this weekend with former Melbourne star Aaron Davey to join his two Port Douglas sharpshooters Chapple and Gross in attack, while former Sydney Swan Meredith should relish the step up in class.

South Queensland has retained coach Danny Craven for a third year.
