A TEENAGE boy has been charged after he allegedly evaded police just after midnight this morning in a car chase near Smithfield.

The incident began when police attempted to stop a Subaru station wagon on Anne Street.

The car allegedly sped away from police and headed for the Captain Cook Highway before allegedly cutting off another vehicle.

Officers abandoned the attempted intercept near the James Cook University roundabout, but the car was again spotted by officers in the Stratford area.

It prompted a tyre deflation device to be deployed on Kamerunga Road, Freshwater, and the teenager allegedly continued to drive the car to Martin Street before fleeing on foot.

Officers located the 17-year-old male a short time later. He was charged with failing to stop a motor vehicle.
