WITH beer first poured in 1935, the Post Office Hotel in Mossman is described as a true-blue, dinky-di local hotel.

Its cold beer on a steamy, humid day is consumed by Mossman Mill workers, cane growers “and those occasional travellers with enough gumption to come into contact with real Mossman locals.”

In fact, the locals will tell you the atmosphere is relaxed, the patrons are pretty cool and as Mossman is a family-orientated town, everyone watches out for everybody else.

And if you are lucky enough, you may even leave the pub a millionaire. This is what happened in June this year.

Stopping for a quick beer on his way back to the Daintree, a 48-year-old man bought a Keno ticket for $10 and five minutes later, won the $1.7 million jackpot. This is just one of many stories that will be told in this 82-year-old pub.

The business has seen some change over the past few weeks with a new landlord in place, after Dennis Maher decided to sell the free hold. The ever-popular Chris Sims still owns the business and eager to pour you his finest.

“It’s business as usual. The new landlord is a local and I am looking forward to working with him. Nothing will change and we look forward to continue serving our many patrons,” said Sims.

The Post Office Hotel actively supports a number of charitable organisations through its Friday and Saturday raffles with monies going to Aged Care and the football club.
