THE father of missing Julatten man Reece Kearney has issued a public plea for information into his son’s whereabouts as concerns grow for his safety.

Kearney, 26, was last seen in Mount Surprise and was earlier spotted on CCTV at a roadhouse in Ravenshoe on December 15 riding a black motorcycle.

His father, Ron, told a press conference this morning he had funded his own helicopter search from Georgetown to Croydon on Saturday but failed to find ‘any signs of life’.

He believes Reece was on his way to Normanton, a small cattle town in the Shire of Carpentaria, to visit his brother 'but he hasn't made it'. He was suffering from a medical condition which had deteriorated in the days leading up to his disappearance.

“I’m a bit fearful, but we’ve got to hold hope up that he’s out there. Hopefully he hears this and reports in,” he said.

“He’s a good lad, loves his fishing, is well liked in the community, but he just had some issues in the end, but he was a good boy.”

Reece Kearney withdrew $3000 in Atherton on the day of his disappearance and was not carrying a mobile phone. He’d recently moved in with his father before going ‘off the rails a bit.’

“He’s had psychotic episodes and we feel he just disappeared, wanted to get away,” Ron Kearney said.

“Reece had a medical condition (and) bit of a drug issue. He’d been living back with us for about a month….slowly his medical condition got a bit worse, and he’s decided to take off.

“We are still hopeful of having a happy ending, we love him very much and we’d like to see him back. (If he’s listening) make contact with family or a friend, just to let us know that he’s safe and well.”

Police are appealing for anyone in Mt Isa, Charters Towers or Three Ways in the Northern Territory with information to contact Crime Stoppers or local police.

Reece is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 180cm tall, is of a slim build with short brown hair.

He was travelling on a black 2012 Triumph Bonneville motorcycle with Queensland registration 095-HV.

Anyone who has seen Reece or has any information about his location is urged to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
