Heavy rain hits Far North

A thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Cairns and Douglas regions. IMAGE: BOM.

THE Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Douglas Shire and Cairns regions over the next few hours.

Heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding with the potential to extend further to Cooktown later today.

It comes as the Cairns Airport recorded 96mm of rain within 90 minutes, and 126mm in three hours, according to BOM.
