Brolga Street targeted again by thieves
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
Port Douglas residents have been strongly advised to be more vigilant and not be complacent when it comes to protecting their household property.
The warning was issued today by Sgt Damian Meadows, Officer in Charge Port Douglas police, following a recent incident in Brolga Street, Port Gardens when a man, awakened by his dog at 1:00 in the morning, was confronted by an intruder going through his kitchen draws.
The resident said the man left via the front door and did not seem fazed or intimidated after being discovered. It is believed he was looking for wallets and car keys to hopefully steal their vehicle.
“When people leave their businesses, they ensure it is well secured. We need to be as vigilant at home, not leave valuables lying around and keep all doors locked,” said Meadows.
“Although we do not come close to the crime being experienced in Cairns, if we continue to display complacency, then we’ll become an easy target and perpetrators will come across from Cairns knowing how easy it is to steal cars and other items in Port Douglas,” he said.
