POLICE and a passing motorist were left stunned in the early hours of Saturday morning when they found a crocodile lying on a silent Port Douglas road.
Officers were called to Ulysses Ave at around 1am after a three-metre croc made its way onto the residential street before scampering inside a front yard.

It’s believed the reptile travelled from nearby Ferndale Lake or the Palmer Sea Reef Golf Course.

The animal eventually disappeared down a drain system, an environment not uncommon for crocodiles. A croc was discovered in a drain near Ferndale Lake in 2016 after heavy rain.
A two-metre croc also stopped traffic on the Captain Cook Highway just over a year ago as a motorist was returning to Port Douglas.
