River levels continue to rise across region

- Douglas region braces for heavy downpour
RIVER levels are expected to rise in the Douglas Shire today with rain of up to 200mm expected in the region.
Port Douglas had copped 86mm at 9am this morning which will increase today and tomorrow.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a fresh flood warning for the Daintree River and Mossman River with both expected to rise considerably.
“River levels could rise in the next two hours with a total of 200mm of rain possible in Port Douglas,” BOM forecaster Annabelle Ford said today.
“The heavy rain should ease after tomorrow but there will still be showers around.”
Morgan Road in Gordonvale, south of Cairns, had recorded 280mm in 24 hours at 9am this morning.
A coastal trough will combine with an upper trough moving north of Cairns today, bringing continued heavy rainfall to the flood watch areas.
People living or working along rivers and creeks in the Douglas Shire are being urged to monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings.
