POLICE and ambulance officers were allegedly spat at and assaulted by a Craiglie woman on Saturday morning after she was intercepted driving dangerously at Killaloe.

The 24-year-old woman was arrested at around 4.30am on Saturday morning after police observed her oncoming vehicle swerving from side to side, before suddenly turning off the highway and stopping.

Officers stopped and watched the female driver get out her vehicle and climb onto the roof of the police car. It is alleged that she then began spitting at the officers.

She then got down onto the roadway before allegedly attempting to punch the officers.

“The woman was restrained and also allegedly spat at ambulance officers who had been called to assist her,” a police spokesperson said.

“She was transported to Mossman Hospital for examination and further treatment.”

It will be further alleged that the woman was involved in an earlier disturbance at a Port Douglas address where property was damaged.

Police spoke with her later in the day and she was issued with a notice to appear in the Mossman Magistrates Court next month to face eight charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, wilful damage, serious assault, committing a public nuisance offence and obstructing police.
