COMMENT: Independant Australian retailer United Petroleum will launch a new store in Craiglie in the coming months.

Construction has been rapid at the site on Captain Cook Highway with rumours circulating about what the potential ‘food offer’ will be.

A new KFC? A Subway, perhaps?

The answer might lie in the company’s recent acquisition of pastry chain Pie Face.

A new store manager for the Port Douglas servo is currently being advertised and mentions ‘a small food offer’ will be included as part of the store.

“When the opportunity to acquire Pie Face emerged we identified tremendous value in its brand, as well as its growth potential as a standalone business,” Gary Brinkworth, Group CEO of United Petroleum said after the sale in August.

“We took the decision that Pie Face would fit perfectly with our strategy of growing our business and achieving scale by expanding into new categories whilst growing customer numbers and building capability.”

United plans to roll out Pie Face across its stores nationwide but didn’t confirm if Craiglie would be one. They have not returned calls or emails to Newsport.

Douglas Shire motorists should benefit at the bowser when the new service station is operational with United renowned for their competitive prices.
