DOUGLAS Shire residents are being urged to prepare for falls of up to 300mm over the next two days as a severe weather warning is issued for the region.

Heavy rain is slowly moving north towards Port Douglas with a flood watch now in place from Cooktown to Rollingstone.

Innisfail received 319mm overnight, with the Douglas region bracing for a similar deluge.

“We are expecting the overnight rain to potentially be quite heavy, with isolated falls of up to 300mm possible,” Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Annabelle Ford told Newsport.

“South of Port Douglas is where the really heavy rain has been falling but it’s slowly moving north. It could hit the region tonight and tomorrow.”
