Despite Tropical Cyclone Owen being downgraded from cyclone to tropical low, the high winds and plentiful rain still caused damage across the Douglas Shire Region.

While the ex-cyclone is predicted to intensify and come back across the cape in the coming days, residents of Douglas Shire are cleaning the damage caused over the weekend - and you have sent your images to us.

However, the Bureau of Meteorology have warned Owen may come back around the FNQ tropical coast for round two.

BOM State Manager for Queensland Mr Bruce Gunn said Owen has the potential to sweep back across the Cape York Peninsula at level three intensity.

"Cyclone Owen is already producing very heavy rainfall around the Gulf coast and will bring tropical moisture with it as it tracks overland in Queensland," he said.

"Following this, some models bring the cyclone overland and down Queensland's east coast with widespread heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds throughout the week and into the weekend."

However, Mr Gunn said cyclones are notoriously unpredictable and meteorologists will be keeping a close eye on the system.

"This is an evolving situation, with the potential to be a high-impact event so it's important that the community follow official warnings on the cyclone's forecast track and associated impacts including flooding,
damaging to destructive winds and storm activity," he said.

"With many people travelling during the school holidays, we are urging the public to stay tuned for updated warnings, be aware of local conditions and always follow the advice of local emergency services."
