‘Walking the plank’ was a method of execution practiced on special occasions by pirates, mutineers, and other rogue seafarers. For the amusement of the perpetrators (and the psychological torture of the victims), captives were bound so they could not swim or tread water and forced to walk off a wooden plank or beam extended over the side of a ship.

AND now for something completely different courtesy of Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas where visitors will now be able to ‘walk the plank’ over crocodile-filled waters, and knowing when they have satisfied their curiosity, they can return to terra firma richer and safer for the experience.

To meet the September schools holiday rush, the Port Douglas attraction will be opening what is believed to the world’s first Predator Plank and the test will be to see how many locals and visitors have the courage to … walk the plank.

The Predator Plank development is near completion, with the attraction planning a soft opening on Wednesday 19 September, followed by an official launch on Friday 21 September being celebrated with a weekend full of crocodile festivities.

With adventure tourism growing in the Douglas Shire, The CaPTA Group has recognised this demand and designed Wildlife Habitat’s Predator Plank to meet this market’s needs and assist in growing tourism in the shire.

CaPTA Director of Sales and Marketing Ben Woodward said he is looking forward to trying this exhilarating addition to the park.

“Crocodiles are an iconic ‘must-see’ species in our region, and as we all know, their presence in the wild within our region has become quite topical in recent times,” he said.

“This is stage one of a large project that will be continued into 2019, in which we’re developing a nature-based, adventurous interaction that enhances our current experience.

“We know our guests will be enthralled by this unique encounter with crocodiles in complete safety.”

Wildlife Habitat is Australia’s leading wildlife experience, providing visitors with a chance to observe a huge range of flora and fauna up close.
