IT hasn’t taken long for restaurateur’s Chris and Dani Bower to find their stride after becoming the new owners of Zinc Port Douglas.

The couple has quickly earned acclaim from food experts nationally and internationally thanks to their fresh new approach and menu after re-launching in May.

Foxtel has just finished filming a segment on the highly respected restaurant, to be screened in September, while Zinc is in the running for an Australian Good Food Guide Readers Choice Award later this year.

“We’ve had nothing but positive feedback about what we’ve done to the place, and modernisation seems to be the most common word I hear,” owner Chris Bower told Newsport.

“It’s fresh, it’s clean, and it has an identity now with an actual front entrance rather and an open plan face.

“So those subtle little changes have given the restaurant more of an identity, if that’s possible.”

Bower credited his staff, including new head chef Adam Weck, for making the transition from restaurant manager to owner a smooth one.

Danni, who is being kept busy with their two children, said the ‘dynamics at home’ had slightly changed but they were enjoying the challenges presented by the new venture.

Having worked side by side for almost 10 years, the pair have strived to create an inclusive environment ‘where our staff feel welcomed and valued.’

“I think the whole team has found their stride now and we’ve got used to the volume this venue can handle,” Chris said.

“I feel we’ve come in at a level that we’re comfortable with and that gives you the platform to really build over time.

“The menu is great and it’s selling very evenly across all dishes, and the ambience of the entire venue has gone up a level.”

Zinc plans to enter the weddings and events space next year.
