A NEW three-part series on the Great Barrier Reef will premiere tonight on the ABC's 7:30 program featuring Port Douglas eco-tourism operator Sailaway.
Sailaway owner Steve Edmondson said it was an incredible privilege to be part of the program, believed to be the ABC’s most significant investment and coverage of the reef.

“We were invited to participate as an example of our passion for sustainable eco-tourism and we are hopeful that the coverage will be enlightening and be picked up across the world,” said Edmondson.
The lead journalist covering the story is Peter Greste, who spent 400 days in an Egyptian prison on trumped-up charges while working for TV network Al Jazeera, and is now professor of journalism and communication at the University of Queensland.
“I was fortunate enough to host the film crew on board Sailaway Cape Trib with a day of sailing and snorkelling at Mackay Coral Cay. It was also an honour to be interviewed as a representative of a high standard eco-tourism operator,” Edmondson said.
“The film crew also visited Lizard Island with GBRMPA Chairman, Dr Russell Reichelt.”
In tonight’s report, Greste, who is passionate about the reef, takes a look at just how damaged the natural wonder really is and what can be done to restore it.
Sailaway has earned recognition for choosing environmental awareness for its business, showcasing the environment in an authentic and sustainable way.
They hold Advanced Ecotourism and Climate Action Leader Certification through Ecotourism Australia.
