Juniors battle it out in netball grand finals

THE Douglas Netball Association’s junior grand finals were on Tuesday and competition was fierce. After fifteen rounds, all teams hard work came down to one hour of hard netball to fight it out for end of season honours.
In division five, the 12A grand final saw Ramada Storm take on the Miallo Allstars. Miallo got off to a great start getting out to an early lead in the first quarter. However, in the final term Ramada was able to stage a comeback scoring six points to one to take the win 16 – 13.
The player of the match was awarded to Brianna Ingrahm.
In the 12B’s the Port Douglas Cyclones went up against the Little Saints and despite an even first quarter, the Cyclones were able to outscore the Saints to take the match 2 – 0.
The player of the grand final was Kayla Fitzgerald.
The division 4A final saw the Port Panthers defeat the Dynamites in what was a fairly close game, with the Panthers just able to run away with the match in the end to win 20 – 13.
The player of the grand final was awarded to Jaymi Burcombe.
In the division 4B grand final the Young Gems took out the match against the Strikers, 23 – 8. The Gems got out to an early lead that the Strikers, despite their best efforts where just unable to match.
The player of the game was Layla Kerswell.
In division 3A the Young Diamonds took on the Fusion in a close match. However, it was the strong last quarter by the Diamonds that sealed the win for them with help from the outstanding shooting of Ebony Schonenberger. Final score 38 – 20.
The player of the match was Kacy Baxter.
The 3B final saw the Douglas Jets go up against the Rubies in a hard fought match. However, it was the Jets who were stronger on the day, with a great defensive display and impressive shooting, assisting in taking out the game 43 – 6.
The Player of the grand final was awarded to Emma Pollock for her impressive shooting efforts.

MEANWHILE the Douglas Netball seniors had their preliminary finals on Tuesday night, with teams fighting it out for a place in next weeks’ grand finals.
In division one the Young Guns cruised into a grand finals spot with their defeat over Crocs 1. The Young Guns never looked troubled in their 43-point win over the Crocs. Despite the Crocs efficient shooting, the defensive play and shooting skills of the Young Guns proved too much in the end, as they took the win, 64 – 21.
The division two preliminary final saw the Cougars 2 and Hotshots go head to head in a fierce battle. The Hotshots got out to a fast lead early in the match, however the cougars won the following two quarter bringing the score back within range. In the end an impressive last term by the Hotshots allowed them to run away with the game, winning 43 – 31.
