DOUGLAS Shire Council will be seeking community feedback to boost the recreational appeal of popular George Davis Park, or Bubu Kinkari, on Foxton Avenue. The objective is to explore opportunities for the all-abilities playground and Skate Park.

Mayor Julia Leu said responses would be used to identify potential upgrades and grasp innovative ideas. Council is really keen to improve and evolve this popular park,” she said.

“There are a myriad of innovative playgrounds out there and council wants to find out how we can make George Davis Park a place every Douglas Shire family wants go to.

“Playgrounds are absolutely fundamental to community well-being and Council wants to continue providing fun and outdoor options for families.”

Survey respondents have an opportunity to tell Council what they want at the park. Hardcopy surveys may be returned to Council's Administration Offices and Libraries in Mossman and Port Douglas.

Council will also be consulting with park users before finalising a design for the skate park extension, which may also include a pump track.

“Council has already allocated $150,000 in the 2018/19 budget to extend the skate bowl and needs to gauge what else could be done to encourage families to be healthy and active.

“We have listened to our young people and want to deliver more active spaces that make Douglas Shire more attractive to them,” said Leu.
