LIBERAL MP Warren Entsch has conceded Far North Queenslanders are fed up with a ‘broken’ political system.

Speaking after the sensational leadership spill in Canberra today, Entsch said he had received more than 300 emails ‘and about 125 phone calls’ from irate members of his Leichhardt electorate, which includes the Douglas Shire.

“I have carefully read and listened to each and every one of the concerns that voters in my electorate raised with me,” he said following the announcement that Scott Morrison will replace Malcolm Turnbull as Prime Minister.

“The good thing about Leichhardt is it is a long way away from the Canberra circus."

Mr Entsch said the leadership challenge was driven by ‘push-polls, media hype, social media-driven rubbish and certain individuals.’

“I am as angry and frustrated with what has occurred in Canberra this week as I am sure many people in Far North Queensland were,” Mr Entsch said.

“I was vehemently opposed to changing the leadership 50m from the finishing line and subsequently did not support the spill motion.”

Despite his objections, Mr Entsch was compelled to vote and admitted he supported Scott Morrison.

But he vowed to focus on the people of the Far North more concerned with 'power prices, costs of living pressures and our natural environment'.

“My constituents are only concerned at whether the government can deliver the essential services they rely on daily,” he said.

He also issued a back-handed swipe at former Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who he said had achieved his objective to destabilise the Coalition after he too was given the boot.

“Given former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has made his intention clear that he will resign from the Parliament, I think it is best for the nation and the party that we start with a clean slate," he said.

“And considering the former Prime Minister, the Federal Member for Warringah has now achieved his objectives, I believe he should follow suit.”
